Art at Balcarres
Over the centuries, Balcarres has supported the arts. This has been achieved through charitable donations, lending artworks to galleries and institutions, and commissioning work from artists and craftsmen across disciplines including painters, sculptors, blacksmiths, and stonemasons.

As a member of the family Alexander grew up on the Estate and lives here today. Having worked in film and photography for over 40 years, Alexander has become a master at capturing some of nature’s most extraordinary and remote environs in Scotland and around the world. Alexander pushes the boundaries of his photography with the epic scale of his landscapes which are proudly featured in our properties and available for purchase.

David was first invited to Balcarres to capture a family celebration but the relationship quickly evolved. He now works closely with the Estate to document it’s contemporary history for future generations. David is leading efforts to create the photographic memory of the Estate’s story and its characters.
